"Redon's Black" Exhibition

"Redon's Black" Exhibition
Closes in 15 days
At Bunkamura Museum of Art
Media: Painting, Drawing, Prints

Odilon Redon (1840-1916) is known for his whimsical style, and is one of the representative painters of the French Symbolism movement along with Gustav Moreau from the same period. His print works that he arrived at after the setbacks of his adolescence and that he himself called "my black" portray a particularly unique world created with an absolutely free imagination and strong spirituality. This "black" that covered one of this artist's entire creative periods was praised by young avant-garde artists of the time such as Gauguin. 200 works will be on display focusing on this artist's "black," including supplementary works from Gifu Prefectural Museum that has one of the world's largest collections of his works.
